What Shield Rx is
A secure dispenser built around one simple promise.
Shield Rx is a secure, biometric dispenser built to make sure medication reaches only the person it's meant for, exactly when it's supposed to. A fingerprint unlocks it. A built-in timer controls when a dose becomes available. Inside, a hardened core protects the mechanism from tampering.
The idea started as a response to the opioid crisis, but it's grown into something bigger: a device for any pill, prescription or over-the-counter, that any home can use. It's built for patients managing controlled prescriptions, for nursing homes and care facilities, and just as much for anyone trying to stay consistent with daily vitamins and supplements.

Shield Rx is currently a working proof-of-concept, developed out of West Virginia University. We're actively developing and testing the core engineering challenge: dispensing a single pill at a time, reliably, across pill shapes and sizes, without jamming. Shield Rx is not yet commercially available.
